Living in the Mädchenhaus

The girls share a flat in the Mädchenhaus and form a community.
Every girl has a room, either single or shared with someone else.
They share the kitchen, the bathroom, the dining room and the living room.
And there is a room where all can meet.
In the evenings, the girls cook and eat together.
The girls share the housework. Each girl gets a task, for example cleaning the kitchen. Then the girl takes care of this task.
Once a week, there is a group meeting with the other girls. In this group, we talk about problems, experiences or about the life together. Sometimes we also make an excursion

It is important that you continue to go to school or to work. Sometimes, it may not be possible to do so, as you may be threatened in school. Then, the Mädchenhaus offers you an alternative schedule. For example: you study for school, you write applications, you do handicrafts or go for excursions.
All the girls in the Mädchenhaus have a personal counselor. You will also get your personal counselor. The counselor listens to you and counsels you. She discusses with you on how to proceed further.
If you wish, your counselor can take part in the official meetings. For example with the authorities, with the office for youth welfare or with your parents. Your counselor accompanies and supports you, so that you can voice your opinion. And so that you are heard.
In the Mädchenhaus, girls meet other girls with similar problems. That helps.
The experience of living together without violence gives courage to the girls.
It gives them a new hope for the future. And shows them new ways.
